The June 27th Miracle is only a few days away. Many people are wondering what it’s all about. Well, this day is being marked for community contributions for Windsor/Essex County families in need of groceries in the time of COVID-19.
The event is spearheaded by many businesses, community leaders and residents. Find them at June 27 Miracle’s Facebook page. If you’d like to help, there are several ways you can do so.
Do your bit ahead of time:
1. You can promote the event by sharing June 27 Miracle posts and graphics on every social media you can think of. You can find those posts and graphics here.
2. Make signs or posters, put something in your window or on your car and drive it around town. Spell it out with sidewalk chalk. Write it on stones. Get creative with it.
3. Tell everyone you can think of about this event. Everyone can ultimately be involved by donating, or later by receiving the gift.

You can help on the day itself:
1. You can put non-perishable food items on your doorstep before noon.
2. You can go to the Kingsville Arena or to the pavilion at Cottam’s Ridgeview Park at noon on June 27th with your donations. Volunteers will take your donations off your hands and get them into the hands of people who need them.
3. You can be one of the volunteers helping to collect donations from doorsteps, the Arena or the pavilion.
Non-perishables are definitely the way to go! Canned fruit and vegetables, canned meat, pasta and sauces of any and all kinds. You can give spreads like peanut butter and jam.
Don’t forget paper products like toilet paper (remember not long ago when nobody could find any?) and paper towels, facial tissues and disposable diapers. There’s bath soap, shampoo and toothpaste, dish soap and laundry detergent.
Pets get hungry too! Canned food, dry pet foods and pet treats are all welcome.
And you know what? Treats for humans are also more than okay. It can be a long haul of austerity and everyone needs a break. Just make sure it’s non-perishable. Like pudding. Mmm-mmm!
To make sure it’s all good, check expiry dates on everything first. Make sure all packages are sealed. Don’t give anything you wouldn’t be happy to receive yourself.
